Overfunding can sometimes have a detrimental effect because founders can sometimes take their eye off the ball between expenses and revenue.
Overspending can result in a negative cashflow. When this occurs, many choose to fire employees, or start to sell off company assets.
Investors can be a wonderful source of finance and insight, but adding too many can be dangerous. Every investor you accept causes an extra level of management, and also reduces the percentage you own.
